Most Romantic Things to Do in Sydney

While Sydney probably wouldn’t be your first association with a romantic getaway, it sure is a city that has a lot to offer to love birds. In fact, it’s so versatile and big that there’s something for everyone’s taste. From beach walks into the sunset to hot air balloon rides, here are some of the most romantic things to do in this lovely city.

Be on cloud nine

If you’re into seeing the city from above, then Balloon Aloft is a must. Show your significant other there are alternate means of transport through Sydney and tailor your own route while in the hot air balloon. Furthermore, if acrophobia is not a concern for you, go climb the Harbour Bridge and get an uninterrupted panorama of the city and its surroundings. Finally, you can check out the second tallest observation tower in the Southern Hemisphere and have a delicious buffet lunch or dinner at the Sydney Tower Eye while soaking in a spectacular 360-degree view of the city.

Walk in beautiful parks

If you’re into picnicking, book one of the 11 sites in Centennial Park – opt for Tier 1 since it’s suitable for smaller groups and romantic couples. Or, go birdwatching and see pelicans, black swans, and many other rare species. Don’t forget about Chinese Garden of Friendship either – it’s a lovely park in Chinatown where you can have traditional Chinese tea (at the Tea House). It’s a perfect place to learn about Chinese culture and heritage since the whole park is modelled on private gardens of the Ming dynasty. Access is free to the Royal Botanic Gardens, a 30-hectare natural amphitheater in the heart of Sydney, so add that to your romantic route as well.

Go for a romantic escape

Besides the heart of the city, Sydney’s surroundings have a lot to offer, too, if you’re on a romantic getaway. Find a reliable car rental, such as Sydney Luxury Car Rentals and go indulge in your inner sommelier at Hunter Valley vineyards. If you plan to taste a lot of different wines, then rent a chauffeur as well and don’t worry about going back to the city. Less than two hours away by car, Blue Mountains are a perfect place for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Explore the ancient Jenolan caves, learn about Aboriginal culture and heritage, or visit the Blue Mountains Music Festival of Folk, Blues and Roots in March.

Opt for a dinner cruise

Sightseeing the city from a boat is always a next-level experience but you can go even further and take your date on an overnight cruise. You’ll get a dinner and a skipper who will navigate your boat. Then, you will be left alone on a yacht during the night – what can be more romantic than the stars and the sound of breaking waves? The best thing about these kinds of cruises is that everything is prearranged – you just have to relax and get ready to spend a lovely night with your significant other.

Watch the most amazing sunsets

If you’re looking for a romantic place to watch the sun go down, Sydney’s beaches are a place to be. Besides watching the sunset, you can grab a coffee at quiet Tamarama beach, go whale watching at Long Reef or Palm Beach or visit Australia’s largest annual outdoor exhibition “Sculpture by the Sea” at the Bondi Beach. If you happen to be there in September, don’t miss Festival of the Winds – the largest kite flying festival happening at the wonderful Bondi Beach.

See a film under the stars

While you’re at the Bondi beach, take a chance to see a romantic movie in one of Sydney’s open air cinemas. With a bottle of nice wine (from Hunter Valley cellars) and a cosy blanket, it can turn into a really romantic date. Another form of untypical cinema was very popular in Australia – drive-in cinemas. Unfortunately, now there’s only one operating and it sure is worth a visit. Skyline drive-in in Blacktown was renovated to follow a retro ’50s theme – all staff wears costumes and you can have traditional ‘50s dinner food – hamburgers, shakes, and banana splits.

Considering the list we just provided, who can dare to say that Sydney is not a good destination for a romantic getaway? Although what matters most on a romantic trip is who you are with, being in a city so full of possibilities can’t hurt either. Take your significant other to the capital of New South Wales and you sure won’t regret it!
